| Golf: Ogilvy in front as play suspended in Miami
MIAMI - Geoff Ogilvy held a one-stroke lead over fellow Australian golfer Adam Scott when play was suspended due to heavy rain in the WGC-CA Championship third round on Saturday. World No 1 Tiger Woods, 11 under par through 11 holes, was in a group three shots behind Ogilvy along with Fijian Vijay Singh and Tim Clark of South Africa. Woods was level-par for his round after three-putting for a bogey at the second and birding the par-four seventh. Singh displayed top form and was eight under for his round with two holes to go. New Zealand's Mark Brown was four over at the 15th when play was halted. That dropped him to seven over and a share of 75th place, 21 shots behind the leader after he had shot rounds of 73 and 74 earlier. Today he mixed four bogeys with a double bogey and two birdies.
PREP GIRLS' GOLF PREVIEW: Red Raiders’ biggest foe is in own backyard
The numbers speak for themselves: The Bellingham girls' golf team has won six consecutive state championships. The Red Raiders have made a habit of running the table when it comes to postseason tournament play, and they've done it whether playing on courses local or distant. When the state tournament comes around this season on May 20- 21, that may again serve to the team's advantage; the 2A girls' tournament will be played at Homestead Farms Golf Resort in Lynden. The fact that going to the state tournament won't require hours and hundreds of miles in a van may benefit who appears to be the Red Raiders' main competition: Sehome. The Mariners took second at the 2007 state tournament and return an impressive group, but Mariners coach Don Helling is clear to point out that any team hoping to steal the state-championship trophy must seize it from the Red Raiders' hands.
Kraft picks up first official win
Greg Kraft closed with a two-under 70 Sunday to overtake third-round leader Bo Van Pelt and win the inaugural Puerto Rico Open. Kraft finished at 14-under-par 274 for his first official tour title. He did win the 1993 Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic, but that was played opposite the Masters and therefore not counted as an official victory. "I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, and I still think about it, but it doesn't even compare to the way I feel now with this one," said Kraft, referring to that victory 15 years ago. "I wish I could describe how I feel, but I can't, and I am sure maybe later I will, when it all sinks in." Van Pelt managed an even-par 72 and shared second place with Jerry Kelly (70) at minus-13. Kevin Stadler (67) and Briny Baird (72) ended in a tie for fourth at 12-under-par 276.
